God’s Precision

This past Sunday, I shared the amazing fulfillment of one of many Messianic prophecies God has given us in His Word. This prophecy was about the “Seventy weeks” (490 years) of Israel’s future predicted in Daniel 9:24–27.

As I stated on Sunday, Dr. Harold Hoehner wrote about this incredible fulfillment of God’s prophetic word to Daniel regarding the first 69 weeks (483 years) of Israel’s future in his book, Chronological Aspects of the Life of Christ (Grand Rapids, Zondervan, 1977, pg. 139). The precision of this prophecy is amazing, though we shouldn’t be too shocked since it was predicted and determined by our Omniscient and Omnipotent Lord Himself. The beginning point (of the 62 weeks) was the decree of Artaxerxes to restore and rebuild the city of Jerusalem in Nisan 1 (March 5th), 444 B.C. (Nehemiah 2:1–8) and the ending point was the very day our Lord presented Himself as the Messiah King on Nisan 10 (March 30th), A.D. 33 (Luke 19:28–40).

The calculation below causes us to stand in awe of the greatness of our God. He is truly the One and only Predictor and Planner of all things! As Isaiah 46:9–11 says, “Remember the former things long past, for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is no one like Me, declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things which have not been done, saying, ‘My purpose will be established, and I will accomplish all My good pleasure’; calling a bird of prey from the east, the man of My purpose from a distant country. Truly I have spoken; truly I will bring it to passI have planned it, I will certainly do it.”
