Why should I give & what does the Lord expect from me?
As followers of Jesus Christ, we recognize that He is the Owner and Provider of all that we have, so we are called to be managers of His gifts to us. Throughout Scripture, we are commanded to give back a portion of what God has so generously provided to us. Giving is an act of worship and is to be done with a spirit of thanksgiving.
God Expects the Following from His followers:
A follower of Jesus is called to be a generous giver (2 Corinthians 9:6; Acts 20:35).
A follower of Jesus is called to give a pre-planned gift and to be a cheerful giver (2 Corinthians 9:7).
A follower of Jesus is called to give regularly (1 Corinthians 16:1).
A follower of Jesus is called to give with a thankful heart of worship (2 Corinthians 9:12; Exodus 25:1-2; 35:21-22, 29).
A follower of Jesus is called to give the first portion of their income to the Lord (Proverbs 3:9-10).
A follower of Jesus is called to give according to how the Lord has blessed him (2 Corinthians 8:12).
A follower of Jesus is called to demonstrate his love for Christ through his giving (2 Corinthians 8:8-9; 1 John 3:17-18).
A follower of Jesus is called to give a gift that honors the Lord (Philippians 4:18).
