That's My King! Do You Know Him?

Probably the greatest, most moving, and inspiring presentation of Jesus Christ I’ve ever heard was by Shadrach Meshack Lockridge, former Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in San Diego (1953–1993, now at home with the Lord). We have shared this presentation a number of times with our church family and it always elicits a fresh reminder of how unique, amazing, and praiseworthy our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is. It never gets old.

Take a moment and let your mind and heart be reinspired about the incomparable reality of Jesus in the words of Pastor S.M. Lockridge. I will share two of them. One is the famous “That’s My King!” presentation (5 min) and another is called the “No One Like Him” (Acts 4:12; 42 min).

“He's the King of Israel; that's a national King. He's the King of Righteousness. He's the King of the Ages. He's the King of Heaven. He's the King of Glory. He's the King of Kings, and He is the Lord of Lords. That's my King. David said, "The Heavens declare the glory of God and the firmament showeth His handiwork. No means of measure can define His limitless love. No far-seeing telescope can bring into visibility the coastline of His shoreless supply. No barrier can hinder Him from pouring out His blessings. Well, He's enduringly strong. He's entirely sincere. He's eternally steadfast. He's immortally graceful. He's imperially powerful. He's impartially merciful. That’s my King! He’s God's Son. He's a sinner's Savior. He's the centerpiece of civilization. He stands alone in Himself. He's august. He's unique. He's unparalleled. He's unprecedented. He's supreme. He's pre-eminent. He’s the loftiest idea in literature. He's the highest personality in philosophy. He's the supreme problem in higher criticism. He's the fundamental doctrine of true theology. He's the cardinal necessity of spiritual religion. That’s my King.”  Listen to this entire magnificent presentation

The second message (“No One Like Him,” Acts 4:12) puts the “pedal to the metal” about our Lord’s uniqueness. You can listen to this message also.

And just to cement the truth a bit more regarding why we can’t know, love, and worship the Lord Jesus Christ enough, read these outrageous claims:

  • Jesus said, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me” (John 14:6).

  • Paul said, “If anyone does not love the Lord, he is to be accursed” (1 Cor 16:22).

  • Peter said, “And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).

  • Paul said, “For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ” (1 Cor 3:11).

  • Paul again said Jesus is the “only mediator between God and man” (1 Tim 2:5).

  • One of the greatest portraits of Christ put on display ends with this remark about Jesus. He must come “to have first place in everything” (Col 1:18; read verses 13–18 together).

  • Peter proclaims that “He is Lord of all” (Acts 10:36; see also Rm. 10:12).

There are so many great songs about Jesus Christ. Here is an old hymn I have been enjoying recently with a new twist. “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus” by Sovereign Grace.

Let’s keep “fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith” (Heb. 12:2a)
