Family Worship - Abraham and Issac (Genesis 22)

Read & Discuss

Do you have a favorite toy or stuffed animal you’d never want to give away? Parents, do you have something –cellphone, jewelry, photos- that you’d never want to be without? What if God asked you to give up this special item? Abraham’s trust and obedience to God with his son Isaac is remarkable. Even in such a hard moment, Abraham trusted and obeyed. Abraham was willing to give Isaac up for God, but God provided another way. Only Jesus could save people from their sins so he gave Himself for us. In John 15:10, Jesus said “I lay down my life for the sheep.”

Activity

Take your family on a hike. As you hike, talk about Abraham and Isaac. Ask your kids to describe what they would be feeling if they were Abraham or Isaac. How did Abraham trust God in such a hard situation? Give thanks for Jesus’ sacrifice and willingness to die in your place.

Memory Verse

Our verse is Psalm 100:5. “For the LORD is good, and his faithful love endures forever; his faithfulness, through all generations.” Talk about what this verse means.

Prayer

Ask God to help you obey Him and those He has put in charge. Also, make a list of people that God is leading you to share Jesus with this week. These people need to see how much God loves them and how much we love them too. Am I willing to say “yes” when God calls?
