Faith Beyond Understanding

Article: The Fright of Death: How Conscience Makes Cowards of Us All (Tim Keller)

Prayer: God, we pray that You would give us a spirit of power and patience during this time. Help us not to be anxious, not to be afraid, and not to fear death. I pray that your Spirit would fill us and give us faith that is beyond our understanding. You are sovereign during this time, and we know that You are not surprised by what is going on in the world. Please protect us from evil, but also empower us for good. Your ways are not our ways and we are comforted by that fact. Lead us in the way that we should go and direct our steps. Help us to believe that “to live is Christ and to die is gain.” As the man prayed in Mark 9, we too pray, “Lord we believe, but help our unbelief.”

We pray that we would not waste our days during this quarantine, but that we would live purposefully in front of our families and friends. Help us not to complain or be ungrateful during this time. Open our eyes to see You working in mysterious ways.

Father, death and sickness are scary, but we find courage in David’s words in Psalm 23 that even though we walk through the darkest valleys, we will fear no evil; for Your rod and your staff comfort me.

Nothing happens outside of Your sovereign plan that is not for our good and Your glory. Thank You for continually providing for your church here in Federal Way. Amen.
