Jacob and Esau Genesis 25:27-34; 27:1-41

Read & Discuss

God had promised He would continue His covenant through Jacob and now Esau, but Rebekah and Jacob chose to trick Isaac. They dressed Jacob up and pretended to be Esau so he could receive the father’s blessing. It was hard for Rebekah and Jacob to trust and wait on God’s promise, so they lied and cheated to get what they wanted sooner. God is faithful, even when we are not. Through Jacob’s family, God sent the promised Savior, and blessing and salvation to the world.

Activity

Gather scraps of colored paper and rip into small pieces about the size of a quarter. As a family, work together and create a piece of mosaic art. Make a cross, or your last name, or the word “Promise” with the pieces. Remember that God faithfully keeps His promises even when we mess up.

Memory Verse

Our new memory verse is Genesis 50:20: “As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today.” *Can you still remember Psalm 104:24 and 100:5? Try repeating them.

Prayer

Thank God that He has control over everything (Prov. 16:9). Ask God to give you wisdom, and to obey Him and His plan for your life. How does it feel to know that God had a plan for you before you were born?
