Jesus is our Greatest Gift (Luke 2:1-20)

Read & Discuss

Think of a favorite gift you’ve received at Christmas. Maybe you asked for it, or maybe it was a complete surprise! The person who gave you the gift put a lot of thought and effort into the purchase and wrapping. You only had to receive the gift to enjoy it. God, because of His incredible love, gave us the greatest gift ever, sending His only Son, Jesus to the earth. Jesus lived, died, and came back to life again and gives salvation and forgiveness of sins to all who believe in Him. Recite John 3:16.

Activity

Set a family meeting, and alert everyone to when and where. Provide tea or hot chocolate. Have some cut-outs of Joseph, Mary, baby Jesus, and a shepherd, as well as a sheep, goat, and donkey. Read Luke 2:1-20 and add the pieces to the scene as the story unfolds. Discuss what joy must have been there that night.

Memory Verse

Each family member take a 3x5 card and a pen and write out the verse Psalm 34:17. Pass it to the person on your left. Does it say “The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, and rescues them from all their troubles?”

Prayer

Thank God for the gift of His Son, Jesus. Ask God for opportunities to tell others about the good news of Jesus today. Pray by name for a co-worker, a neighbor, or a friend that they will be interested in hearing about Jesus, God’s greatest gift.
