Moses Parted the Red Sea (Exodus 13:17-15:21)
Read & Discuss
The Bible tells us that the Israelites were in Egypt for 430 years, and about 600,000 men left with Moses. We can estimate that the Israelites numbered more than two million leaving Egypt. God performed a mighty miracle, holding back the waters of the Red Sea so His people could walk to freedom. God provides freedom from the power and penalty of sin for all who believe in His Son, Jesus. Read Exodus 15 and see how the people praised God for the Red Sea miracle.
Activity
Fill a large bowl with water. Kids can use spoons, cups, or hands to scoop water from the bowl. Try to ‘hold back’ the water as it falls back into the bowl. Discuss how great God’s power over creation is as He held back the waters for the Israelites.
Memory Verse
Psalm 34:17 says “The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, and rescues them from all their troubles.” Write out the verse substituting simple pictures like an open mouth for ‘crying out’, an ear for ‘hears’, etc. Then write it again word for word. You’ve got it!
Prayer
Ask God to remind you that His power has no limits. Pray confidently because of who God is. Thank God for how vast the sky is reminding us of His greatness, and the brightness of the sun reminding us that Jesus is the light of the world. Praise our great God!
