Taking the Land (Joshua 10, 11)
Read & Discuss
Derek Redmond was a 400m runner in the 1992 Olympic Games. He was a strong candidate to win. But halfway through the race, Derek fell with a pulled hamstring. As he began limping to the finish line, his father Jim ran onto the track and carried his son over the finish line on his shoulder. Derek’s dad helped when he needed it most! God promised victory for the Israelite army and when needed the most, God was there causing the sun to stand still – and victory took place! Jesus defeated our enemies – sin, death, and the grave – on His cross and if we believe in Him, we receive His righteousness. Praise God!
Activity
Watch carefully this week for a time when the sun is going to be seen in the sky. Find a place that the family can get a good view of the sunset. Talk about how God fought for His people by making the sun stand still. Remind your family that God is in control of everything, and that this is a comfort to us.
Memory Verse
Re-tell the victories at Jericho, Ai, Gibeon, and say aloud: “Psalm 24:8…Who is this King of glory? The Lord, strong and mighty, the Lord, mighty in battle!”
Prayer
We can remember that God has power to do what might seem impossible for us. God has power even over creation. Ask God and thank Him for the strength and courage to obey and to follow His ways.
