The People Complained (Numbers 20:1-12; 21:4-9)

Read & Discuss

In 1928, penicillin was accidentally discovered and when used in treatment, saved lives. In fact, thousands of lives in World War 2. It continues to be used today and there is no way to count how many lives are saved by this medicine. God sent venomous snakes because the Israelite people complained, even after all God did for them. God showed mercy to those who were bitten, providing healing through a bronze snake lifted up on a pole. God offers us the way to be healed from the penalty of our sins through the sacrifice of Jesus, who was lifted up on a cross.

Activity

Dad/Mom, look up nature videos about venomous and non-venomous snakes. Talk with kids about the fear and chaos that might have come when God sent the venomous snakes to the Israelite camp. Remind them that God showed mercy and gave the people a way to be healed, and ultimately saved, from the punishment of their sins.

Memory Verse

This verse is an amazing promise! Say it together as a family each day at dinner time. “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”

Prayer

Do you remember if you complained about something today? Ask God for His forgiveness. Thank God for the mercy God shows us by providing doctors and medicine to us. God is so good.
