The Suffering of Job (Job 1-2, 40-42)
Read & Discuss
Sometimes the bad news around us causes us to ask: Why would God allow bad things to happen and so many people to suffer? When Job lost everything – including his family – he asked God a very similar question. God reminded Job that He is all-powerful, always in control, and always good. Job trusted in who God is. Through his suffering, Job never turned away from God. When we face hard things in life, remember the cross of Jesus. God used His pain and suffering to bring Good News – our salvation from sin and relationship with God.
Activity
‘Tis a great season to visit those without family. Pack some books, games, or a songbook and visit an assisted living facility to comfort the residents. Then, talk as a family about how we can be a comfort to those who are suffering, because God is the ultimate source of comfort.
Memory Verse
Hiding Genesis 50:20 in our hearts is so important…“As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today.” We must remember that suffering produces endurance, character, and hope. Read Romans 5:3-4 aloud.
Prayer
Make a list of the things you have to be thankful for. Praise God for the blessings He has given you and your family. Tell God: “Blessed be Your name, O Lord,” as you pray together.
