One Another Living in a Digital Age
God created humans in His image and gave them the ability to learn and create and with the task to rule over the world for His glory. Every generation has seen advances. My grandparents used an outhouse and wood-burning stove. We have flush toilets and electricity. My generation grew up with dial phones on the wall and typewriters. My kids have cell phones and iPads.
Technology has brought us to the digital age. We all understand we live in a fallen world. Everything is subject to the curse, including technology. Technology is not bad, but it can be used for evil purposes. We shouldn’t shun technology, just like we didn’t shun flush toilets or electricity. But we want to be sure we use it for good and not for evil.
To use technology to the glory of God, we need discernment. We want to draw our sisters (and ourselves) closer to God and not further away from God through our use of digital media.
Sarah and I put together an acronym, POST, to help us filter what we put online before we post.
P: Prepare your heart to display Godly love.
John 13:34 "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another.”
O: Offer comments with a heart of humility.
Philippians 2:3 “Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves.”
S: Serve your sisters in a way that builds a sisterhood of faith.
1 Peter 4:10 “As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.”
T: Think before you post.
Ephesians 5:19 “Speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord.”
Maybe you can memorize the POST acronym. What is your mission for your Facebook page? How can we practice the one anothers in this digital age?
