Moses’ Farewell (Deuteronomy 31-34)
Read & Discuss
In 1970, Warren Buffett became the chairman and chief executive officer of a textile company, Berkshire Hathaway. He is still in charge today and has been for 55 years. This length of time shows the value of an excellent leader. Moses led the Israelites for a total of 40 years. Though leading imperfectly, Moses was faithful and followed God’s will for him (Read Ex 3; Ex 33). Because of God’s goodness, Moses became a leader for His people. We see God’s goodness in sending an even greater Leader to shepherd God’s people for all eternity: Jesus Christ. Read Deut. 31-34 for Moses’ final deeds and the words of a great song he read to all of Israel.
Activity
Take a piece of notepaper and write a “dad” column and a “mom” column. First dad, then mom, share with your family what ways you lead your family. Ask your children to pray for you as you humbly follow God’s plan and lead.
Memory Verse
Been sick at times? Have trouble in a relationship in your family or at school? God knows what we face and gives us this promise in Romans 8:28: “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”
Prayer
Thank God now for dads and moms in your family and your church family. Thank God for Jesus. Jesus said in John 10:11, “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.”
