The People Grumbled (Numbers 11-12)

Read & Discuss

We live in a world that is never satisfied and always wants more: more money, more toys, more clothes, more free time. There is a big problem with always wanting more. We will never be satisfied. God provided for the Israelites in ways only He could do, yet they wanted God to do more, give them more. They were not satisfied with God or His gifts. Often we grumble because we think we need more than God provides. And we wish God would give us more of the things we want. God has provided what we need most – His Son, Jesus, who died and rose again so we could be saved. We must focus on being satisfied and expressing thanks to God (Romans 15:13).

Activity

Create a “Contentment” jar to keep on the dinner table. Every day each family member write out one thing you are thankful for and place it in the jar. At the end of the week, read aloud what’s in the jar and give thanks that God has been faithful and good.

Memory Verse

Our next memory verse is Romans 8:28 – “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”

Prayer

Ask God to teach you contentment today. Trust that God is good and has given us everything He wants us to have. Ask God to forgive you when you complain this week (1 John 1:9).
