Incomparable

According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, the definition of incomparable is eminent beyond comparison (matchless) or not suitable for comparison.

In a world of seemingly endless opinions, many would have a view of who they believe qualifies to be described as unsurpassed. However, there is truly no compelling argument against attributing the word incomparable uniquely to Jesus Christ.

Who can honestly compare to Jesus Christ? Just a brief look at the seven descriptions of Jesus Christ in Hebrews 1:2-3 reveals no one is remotely close.

  • Jesus is “the heir of all things.” (What heir compares to this “all things” reality?)

  • Jesus “made the world.” (Who compares to the Creator of everything?)

  • Jesus “is the radiance of His glory.” (Who else reflects the inherent brilliance of God’s glory?)

  • Jesus is “the exact representation of His nature.” (Who else is the precise mirror image of God Himself?)

  • Jesus “upholds all things by the word of His power.” (Who else is able to keep all of creation working toward its intended purpose and end?)

  • Jesus “made purification of sins.” (While we can forgive one another of our sins against each other, who else could heal humanity’s incurable sin disease against God?)

  • Jesus “sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.” (Who else sat down like Jesus signifying that sin had been paid in full and continues to sit as the rightful Sovereign King of the universe?)

It is clear there is nobody like Jesus who deserves all honor, love, and worship, but something clearly is wrong. According to Barna Research, 63% of Americans say they have made a commitment to Jesus that’s still important in their lives today ("Jesus: Man, Myth or God?" 2017).

Sixty-three percent? How can this be in America with all the public disgrace, rebellion, and evil? Either Americans are self-deceived about their belief in Jesus or they are following “another Jesus” (2 Cor. 11:4). Only the Jesus of God’s Word is the real Jesus who is incomparably worthy of our greatest love, deepest devotion, and utmost trust, submission, and worship.

It truly is all about Jesus who is “our life” (Col. 3:4), and “our hope” (1 Tim. 1:1), and deserves “to have first place in everything” (Col. 1:18).

If He is not, God sadly says you will “die in your sins” (John 5:24), you are “accursed” (anathema in 1 Cor. 16:22), and will hear the most haunting words ever yet-to-be spoken “I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness” (Matt. 7:23).

Keep fixing your eyes on Jesus. Take a listen to this reverent, inspiring song to the honor and glory of Jesus Christ: Is He Worthy?

P.S. Just in case you were wondering, Amazon’s Alexa says that the single most influential person who ever existed is Martin Luther King Jr. A transformative historic civil rights leader for sure, but he is not even close to Jesus as the most influential person who ever existed.
