Soooo.....why are you worried?

Sooo… Why are you worried?

In Philippians 4:6, Paul says, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” And then in Philippians 4:19, he gives the delivering promise of future grace: “And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”

Paul doesn’t say, “My God shall give me what I want.” He says that God will supply all my needs. So, what do I need? I need a Savior who can bear the guilt of my sin and die in substitution for what I deserve (2 Cor 5:21). I need Jesus Christ to give me strength in weakness (Phil 4:13). I need the Holy Spirit to be my helper (Jn 14:16-17) to give me comfort and encouragement, guidance and power, and to convict me of sin. I need a Father that can and will supply all my needs according to His riches in glory, because of His Son Jesus Christ (Phil 4:19).

I don’t get what I want. I get what I need! The fact is I will never understand what I need until I grow in trust, righteous living, and seeking after God (Matt 6:33). Then and only then will my heart start to line up with God’s, and I will begin to have the same desires as God and start to understand my real needs (Ps 37:3-5).

Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness. Delight yourself in the LORD; and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD, trust also in Him, and He will do it. (Psalm 37:3-5)

I don’t know what you want in your life today, but I know that you need something! My God is all-sufficient (2 Cor 9:8). My God is all-powerful (Eph 3:20). My God is the Prince of Peace who alone can bring peace into your life (Phil 4:6-7). My God is the Provider who can open up the windows of heaven and meet your every need in amazing ways (Phil 4:19). My God is the Healer who can touch a sick body and make it strong again (James 5:13-15). My God is the One who will give you victory when defeat looks imminent (Rom 8:37-39).

Maybe you and I should stop begging God for what we want and start praising God for the way He supplies our every need past, present, and future, according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus (even when we don’t know what our true needs really are)!

Is He your God? Are you seeking His kingdom and His righteousness? If so, go to Him with praise in your heart for all the needs He has already met; trust Him for your current and future needs; and don’t be anxious…your God’s got it under control!!!
