Why Preach Jesus

By Pastor Jim Low

"For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes...” Romans 1:16

Dear Church,

We don't preach health-and-wealth prosperity, social justice, republican values, democratic values, political reform, critical race theory, black lives matter, conspiracy theories, science is real. We don’t preach moralism, legalism, ecumenism, inclusivism, universal reconciliation, permissive grace, tradition, ethical relativism, therapeutic deism, self-help, self-care theories. We don’t preach co-exist, what works for you, why can’t we just all get along, and all you need is love, love, love is all you need.

These are NOT the mission of Christ’s Church.

WE PREACH JESUS!

This past Sunday we launched a four-week series aimed at helping us in our great God-given mission of “making more disciples.” We began by asking important, heart-searching questions in four areas:

Lifestyle? Are you living an evangelistic lifestyle that is credible, noticable, and verbalized?

Boldness? Are you unashamed about the gospel? Is your faith “out of the closet” for all to see and hear?

Skill? Are you confident about your ability to accurately tell others the most important news ever and to answer questions?

Burden? Do you have a heart for lost people, burdened by their desperate need of salvation?

Why Preach Jesus?

On Sunday we focused on three motivating factors for being a gospel witness: We preach Jesus because it matters to God, it matters to people, and it mattered to you. Over the next three weeks, we will address the WHAT and the HOW. What Do We Preach About Jesus? will focus on the content of the saving gospel message. How Do We Preach Jesus? (parts 1 and 2) will focus on practical and effective approaches to sharing the Good News with unbelievers.

What will it take for us to grow in our passion, skill, and faithfulness in sharing the gospel? It takes a humble confession, a heart-felt conviction, and honest commitment—a commitment to do our part as God uses His change agents—the Holy Spirit, the sole convicter of sin and our empowering source, and the gospel itself—to transform lives!

Join us this month and don’t forget the weekly homework assignments which will encourage and equip us to be more effective messengers of the Good News.
