Crossing the Jordan River (Joshua 1, 3, 4)
Read & Discuss
Gateway Arch stands 630-feet tall over the city of St. Louis, Missouri. The arch is made of concrete and steel, weighing over 43 tons! Built in 1963, this monument remembers and celebrates the westward expansion of the United States. Many monuments were built and seen throughout the Bible. God gave Joshua instructions to take 12 stones from the middle of the Jordan River to build a monument and remember what God had done. The Jordan River story could be told again and again as people passed by the stones. God’s presence was with the people as they crossed through where the waters were stopped. We tell about God’s wonderful work — how God sent Jesus to save us from our sin — so that people might believe in Him.
Activity
Call the church office and ask for a telephone number of an elderly member. Call them on speaker phone and introduce yourselves. Then ask them to share one story with you about God’s faithfulness from their life. Pray with them and ask if on Sunday you could meet to say hello.
Memory Verse
Our Bible memory verse is Psalm 24:8 “Who is this King of glory? The Lord, strong and mighty, the Lord, mighty in battle!” During your family meal, proclaim this verse at the end of your prayer.
Prayer
Remember one of God’s amazing works you’ve learned from the Bible. Praise God for that, and praise God for one way He helped you today. Ask God for someone you can share His greatness with. Prepare for that moment and then tell them. Give God praise!
