Perspective
If you hang around me long enough, one of the things you will discover about me is that I love to listen to music by MercyMe. Perhaps some of you are attending their concert this evening at ShoWare Center. Recently, I was listening to their song, "Better Days Coming." This is an uplifting song about persevering through trials and suffering. At one point in the song the lead singer, Bart Millard, sings, “If it’s not good, then it’s not over yet.” What a great reminder of the importance of having perspective. It got me thinking about the peace, comfort, and hope that God’s covenant faithfulness provides in times of trouble.
Full of Grace and Truth
One of the many remarkable attributes of our Lord and Savior is this: He is “full of grace and truth” (John 1:14). Truly amazing, but have you noticed how these attributes tend to be out of sync in our lives? I know it happens to me.
Like me, we have all been called to “walk as He walked” (1 John 2:6), to “follow in His steps” (1 Peter 2:21) because we are “predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son” (Romans 8:29). The Lord desires that we be “full of grace and truth,” not bent toward truth OR grace.
God’s Word to Gaza
In my reading this week, I ran across an excellent article about what the Bible says about Gaza written by Joel Rosenberg (editor-in-chief of ALL ISRAEL NEWS and ALL ARAB NEWS and the President and CEO of Near East Media. A New York best-selling author, Middle East analyst, and evangelical leader, he lives in Jerusalem with his wife and sons).
My Top Ten Life Centering Truths
What truths center and guide your life the most? For me, there are many, but if I had to reduce it to the ten most dynamic passages of scriptural truths, it would be these. They keep me motivated and focused.
